Street children endure countless cruelties, and unfortunately, their rights as children are often violated by the very adults who should protect them. Many of these children, especially girls, suffer from sexual exploitation in exchange for basic necessities like food or money, leading to the risk of Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs) and unplanned pregnancies. Since most street children are of school-going age, these girls become mothers early and are deprived of the opportunity to attend school.
To help address this problem, PLCC takes in girls who beg on the streets of Nairobi. When they are admitted, these girls are typically between 4 and 12 years old and have never attended school or any educational institution. They come from various slums in Nairobi, including Mathare slum.
