Keeping a child away from the street

PLCC Girls

Target group

Street children face endless cruelties. Their rights as children continue being violated many times by the adults who were supposed to protect them. In many cases these children, especially girls are subject to sexual exploitation in return for food or money, in the process acquiring Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs) and unplanned pregnancies. With the majority of the street children being of school going age, the girls soon become parents and are denied an opportunity to go to school.
To participate in solving the problem, PLCC admits girls who beg in the streets of Nairobi. The girls are between 4 and 12 years old when admitted. They have neither attended school nor any other educational institution. These children come from different slums of Nairobi, one of them being Mathare slum.
